Introducing the Accelera Series Motion Controller

The Accelera Series Motion Controller is Galil's highest performance motion controller for speed and processing power. Available in PCI and Stand-Alone versions, the Accellera Series accepts up to 22 MHz encoder frequencies for servos and output pulses for steppers at 6 MHz.

Accellera Series Motion Controller

DMC-4000 Standalone Accelera Series Motion Controller

The DMC-40x0 motion controller is Galil's highest performance, stand-alone motion controller. It belongs to Galil's latest generation motion controller family: the Accelera Series, which accepts encoder inputs up to 22 MHz, provides servo update rates as high as 32 kHz, and processes commands as fast as 40 microseconds-10 times the speed of prior generation controllers.

The DMC-40x0 is a full-featured motion controller packaged with optional multi-axis drives in a compact, metal enclosure. The unit operates stand-alone or interfaces to a PC with Ethernet 10/100Base-T or RS232. The controller includes optically isolated I/O, high-power outputs capable of driving brakes or relays, and analog inputs for interfacing to analog sensors. The DMC-40x0 controller and drive unit accepts power from a single 20-80 VDC source. The DMC-40x0 is available in one through eight-axis formats, and each axis is user-configurable for stepper or servo motor operation.

Like all Galil controllers, programming the DMC-40x0 is simplified with two-letter, intuitive commands and a full set of software tools such as WSDK for servo tuning and analysis, and an ActiveX Tool Kit for Visual Basic users.

Accellera Series Motion Controller

DMC-18x6 Accelera Series Motion Controller

The DMC-18x6 PCI bus controllers belong to Galil's latest generation motion controller family: the Accelera Series. Incorporating a 32-bit Risc-based microcomputer, these new controllers offer high-speed performance and processing power. Speed improvements include acceptance of encoder inputs up to 22 MHz, servo update rates as low as 24 microseconds/axis, and command execution speeds as low as 40 microseconds. While the DMC-18x6 offers performance enhancements compared to prior generation controllers, the programming language and 100-pin SCSI connector are virtually the same, making conversion to the DMC-18x6 quick and easy.

Like all Galil controllers, programming the DMC-18x6 is simplified with two-letter, intuitive commands and a full set of software tools such as WSDK for servo tuning and analysis, and an ActiveX Tool Kit for Visual Basic users.

DMC-21x3 Ethernet Motion Controllers

Low inductance servo amp now available for Galil DMC-21x3 Ethernet motion controllers

Galil has introduced its new AMP-20542 Low Inductance Servo Amplifier for the popular DMC-21x3 series of Ethernet motion controllers. The AMP-20542, like all Galil plug-in boards, attaches directly to the 96-pin connector of the DMC-21x3, eliminating the need for any cabling.

The AMP-20542 contains four transconductance, PWM amplifiers for driving small, low-inductance brush or brushless servomotors. Each amplifier operates at 18-60 VDC at up to 3.3A continuous, 5A peak. Additionally, the drive for each axis is software configurable so that it can operate in a chopper or inverter mode. The AMP-20542 also guards against over-voltage, under-voltage, over-current and short-circuit.

Galil's DMC-21x3 controller series delivers 1-8 axis control of step or servomotors in any combination of axis. It also features 10-BaseT communications with RS232 port. The DMC-21x3 also has the ability to program such modes of motion as point-to-point positioning, jogging, linear and circular interpolation, electronic gearing, ECAM and contouring. All DMC-21x3 controllers can also be purchased with Galil's array of plug-in, multi-axis amplifier boards designed to eliminate any wiring between the controller and drives.

Following are the various options Galil has available for their DMC-21x3 controllers:

  • ICM-20100: 4-axis Interconnect with D-type connectors for interface to external drives
  • ICM-20105: 4-axis Interconnect with D-type connectors for interface to external drives. Also includes optical isolation for I/O
  • ICM-20500: 4-axis Interconnect with screw terminals and optical isolation. Attaches to AMP-205x0
  • SDM-20240: Four full/half step drives for stepper motors
  • SDM-206x0: Two or four microstep drives for stepper motors
  • AMP-20341: Four 20W drives for brush servos
  • AMP-204x0: Two or four 200W drives for brush servos
  • AMP-205x0: Two or four 500W drives for brushless/brush servos
  • AMP-20542: Four 200W drives for low inductance, brushless/ brush servos
  • DB-28040: Daughter Board for additional 40 digital I/O plus 8 analog inputs
  • DB-28104: Daughter Board for Sine/Cosine encoder signals. Interpolates into high-resolution position data
  • Metal enclosure for DMC-21x3: Standard configuration is for DMC-2143 attached to ICM-20105. Other packaging options available upon request.

SDM-20640 4-axis amplifier boardGalil's new 4-axis SDM-20640 amplifier board designed for microstepping four stepper motors. Like all Galil DMC-21x3 multi-axis drives, the SDM-20640 attaches directly to the 96-pin DIN connector of the controller without any need for a cable. For 2-axis applications, Galil also offers their new SDM-20620.

Galil's family of interconnect cards mount directly to the DMC-21x3 Ethernet motion controllers eliminating the need for a cable which reduces overall costs for OEMs. Interconnect cards are available for extending I/O and adding multi-axis amplifiers to the DMC-21x3 controller.

Several plug-in, multi-axis amplfier boards are available for the DMC-21x3 controller. These include the SDM-20240 for driving four stepper motors in full/half-step mode, the SDM-20640 for driving four stepper motors in the microstepping mode, the AMP-20341 for driving four brush-type servo motors up to 20 Watts, the AMP-20440 for driving four brush-type servos up to 200 Watts, and the AMP-20540 for driving four brushless or brush servos up to 500 Watts. Each of these four-axis amplifier boards attach directly to the 96-pin connector of the DMC-21x3 eliminating the cabling normally associated with interfacing a multi-axis controller to separate single-axis drives.

If the designer elects to use external amplifiers, the ICM-20100 makes interconnection easy as it provides d-sub connectors for each axis. The ICM-20105 provides optically isolated I/O in addition to d-sub connectors. The ICM-20100 and ICM-20105 are just 4.25" x 3.70" and attach directly to the DMC-21x3 96-pin connector.

The DB-28040 provides 40 additional digital I/O and eight analog inputs and attaches to the 50-pin header of the DMC-21x3 . The DB-28040 is just 2.55" x 3.08" and does not interfere with the SDM, AMP or ICM mounting.
